Phillip Schofield ‘set for return’ to broadcasting following ITV external review

Phillip Schofield could return to the showbiz industry soon in a brand new role, it has been claimed. The recent report comes after an external review into the circumstances surrounding his departure from ITV was completed.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Phillip, 61, had “reluctantly declined” an invitation to comply with the “toxicity” review into the broadcaster. The former This Morning host was unable to participate as it would have been a “risk to his health”.

Following the probe, it was concluded that reviewers were “unable to uncover relevant evidence” of Phillip’s alleged affair with a younger man. It has since been claimed that the ex-Dancing On Ice host could return to showbiz in the distant future.

According to MailOnline, a source has claimed: “Now that a line has been drawn in the sand by ITV over the Schofield saga, attention will move on. Within a period of time there is now a place for Phillip to return, possibly not on TV yet, but there are now a myriad of opportunities for him on commercial radio where he will be offered big money to return to his first love.”

They added that the recently concluded report has given the father-of-two a “fresh chance” at a career. Phillip left his long-standing position on the This Morning sofa earlier this year before admitting to having a “consensual on-off relationship” with a younger colleague.

In a statement, issued to MailOnline, the presenter claimed that he met the unnamed man when he was a teenager.

However, he alleged that they did not get into a relationship until he began working on the show.

“It was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship,” Phillip explained. “That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.”

At the time of the announcement, his former TV partner Holly Willougby claimed she’d previously raised questions regarding the affair.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “It’s taken time to process yesterday’s news. When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not

“It’s been very hurtful to now find out that was a lie.”

Following the ITV probe, Phillip’s former ITV colleague Piers Morgan has taken to social media to question whether the presenter’s career and “life” deserved to be “destroyed”.

On Friday (8 December), he took to X (formerly Twitter) and asked his 8.7 million followers: “This may be an unpopular opinion but what did Phillip Schofield do that justified his expulsion from TV & public life?

“He had a consensual affair with a co-worker who’s made no complaint about it, and his wife’s been supportive too.”

He added: “Struggling to see why he had to be destroyed?”

Express.co.uk contacted Phillip’s representatives, who declined to comment.
