Jonnie Irwin goes on family holiday to Spain
Jonnie Irwin is using an electric physiotherapy machine to help strengthen his legs during his gruelling battle with terminal lung cancer. The star kept himself distracted by watching the football at the same time, which left him very happy, and his wife Jessica less so.
The A Place In The Sun presenter, 50, was diagnosed in 2020 and revealed last November that his cancer had spread to his brain. The star took to Instagram over the weekend to show the machine’s electrodes attached to his legs.
Jonnie has the contraption at home and was using it as he watched Tottenham Hotspur beat Newcastle 4-1. He shared with his 237,000 followers: “Trying out my @enovis_uk_ireland machine whilst watching Spurs come good as I hoped they would.
“For me especially this was a ‘pulsating win’ Keeping my joy on the DL as Mrs I was not very happy…” The stimulator is used by both therapists in clinics and patients at home to provide electrical stimulation treatments in pain management and neuromuscular stimulation.

Electric therapy is described by therapy site CKphysio as a “powerful tool used by many physiotherapists, electrotherapy treats chronic pain, musculoskeletal injuries, muscle wasting, and nerve pain by using targeted and controlled electrical stimulation.”
They add: “Electrotherapy is a gentle and non-invasive modality that works by stimulating nerves and muscles through the surface of the skin.”
Jonnie, who recently showed his followers that he was keeping active by sharing a photo of himself out shopping, celebrated his milestone 50th birthday last month, exactly a year after he revealed he had terminal lung cancer, and was given six months to live two years earlier.
The TV host enjoyed a sunny birthday in Costa Del Sol, Spain with his wife Jessica Holmes and their sons, four-year-old Rex and three-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.

Speaking to HELLO!, he said: “I feel really privileged to be able to celebrate my birthday looking at blue skies and with sand between my toes.
“I had an early birthday party at the start of the year because I didn’t think I’d make it. It was like being at my own wake; lots of fun, lots of dancing. But here I am. I view it as a complete triumph.”
He also previously admitted he “felt disgusting” during intense cancer treatment as he shed light on the heartbreaking toll it has taken on his body.
The A Place in the Sun star, 49, revealed he drastically dropped to a dangerously low weight of just six stone. He recalled looking in the mirror and feeling “shocked” at the way he looked which left him feeling “disgusting”.
