Nine\u2019s 2GB* has once again topped the Sydney market in the eighth and final GfK radio ratings survey for the year, with KIIS\u2019 Kyle and Jackie O holding off Ben Fordham to take the breakfast crown for the year.<\/p>\n
ABC Sydney, which will return in 2024 with a significant shake-up to its daily run sheet, dropped to a 6 per cent share to finish the year, in survey eight, down 1 point on the previous survey.<\/p>\n
Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck\u2019s final survey as ABC Sydney breakfast hosts in 2021 saw the duo bow out with a 13.2 per cent share. Two years on, James Valentine\u2019s final survey sees him move back to afternoons with a 7.8 per cent share, down 0.6 points. Comedian Craig Reucassel will take over mornings in the new year.<\/p>\n

ABC\u2019s James Valentine is moving back into the afternoons slot.<\/span>Credit: <\/span>James Alcock<\/cite><\/p>\n Valentine will hope to resuscitate the afternoon slot, which has also fallen off a cliff in the past two years, departing host Josh Szeps\u2019 final show posting a 5.2 per cent share.<\/p>\n Szeps was due to leave the ABC at the end of this week, however his exit was brought forward after an unauthorised appearance on Sky News Australia last week, as reported by this masthead.<\/p>\n The station suffered across the board, with Sarah Macdonald\u2019s Sydney Mornings<\/em> show posting a 4.9 per cent share, down 1.2 points and Richard Glover\u2019s drive show also down 1.3 points to a 5.6 per cent share.<\/p>\n The rest of the ABC\u2019s radio network offered mixed results. ABC NewsRadio was up 0.3 to 2.2 per cent, while Triple J farewelled Richard Kingsmill with a 3.6 per cent share, up 0.3.<\/p>\n RN offered a stagnant 1 per cent share, with an average audience in the market of just 5000 listeners. At breakfast, the show delivered a 1.4 per cent share, down from 1.8 per cent the previous survey, with an average audience of 11,000.<\/p>\n Kyle and Jackie O grew their breakfast share to 16.7 per cent to end the year on a high after signing a mega 10-year, $200 million deal. With it, the new year will put to the test whether the pair\u2019s flamboyant format can cut it beyond Sydney, with a move to syndicate the show into Melbourne.<\/p>\n Behind the KIIS pairing was 2GB\u2019s Ben Fordham who despite finishing second, delivered a strong final survey for the year with a 16 per cent share. 2GB overall posted a 12.1 per cent share, down marginally, however still ahead of KIIS on 11.5 per cent.<\/p>\n SmoothFM followed closely on 11.4 per cent overall following an 0.8 percentage point boost.<\/p>\n
